11 plus courses

Why Test Teach?

We specialise in 11 plus tuition. Our approach is based solely on developing a pupil's confidence in their own ability. We want the benefits of our courses to extend beyond the classroom and parental involvement is consequently something we also strive for. Our syllabus covers Verbal Reasoning, Non Verbal Reasoning, Maths and English.

The course is specifically designed to prepare children for entrance exams to either grammar schools or independent schools.

We offer all new students a free trial lesson so parents can see at first hand if the course is right for them.

  2. The best teachers

We don’t subscribe to computer based learning nor independent learning programmes that involve little or no teaching time. Our teachers are hand selected from the best secondary schools in the local area. As a result we want students to gain the maximum benefit from their skills. To this end, most past papers are set for homework and as a result classroom time is spent teaching not testing. Here is a brief summary of our teachers.

    Jane Nield

Jane has worked with us for over a year and specialises in English. Before she joined us she had previously taught at Tiffin School for 15 years.

    Kieren Holt

Steve is currently a senior member of the physics department at Tiffin School. He teaches mathematics on our Sutton courses. He graduated from Queen's College, Cambridge with a first class degree and masters in Physics.

    Ann Willey

Ann taught Maths at Tiffin School for over 15 years. She currently teaches Non Verbal and Maths at our Kingston course.

    David Nield

David taught at a local grammar school for over three decades. He currently teaches Verbal Reasoning at our Kingston course. As you can see our teaches are what makes our courses so successful. You can read more about them on our teachers page.
  3. Group tuition

Classes have an average of 8 - 12 pupils. We believe group tuition is preferable at this young age for a number of reasons. Firstly, it provides a friendly and relaxed atmosphere for the children to learn in. Second, it allows parents to compare their child against others of a similar ability. Finally, it enables us to provide realistic mock examinations.
  4. Most appropriate course material

We use our own course materials and a wide selection of past papers. A small sample of these can be found in our downloads section and online store. Initially students receive very little homework but unfortunately for them this does not last! By the end of the course they can expect as many as 4 past papers a week.
  5. Regular feedback

Parents can schedule a quick chat with any of our teachers should they wish to discuss their child’s progress. Every 4 weeks students sit a 2 hour mock exam. Parents then receive a report which contains feedback from their child’s teachers and a summary of their test results. Performance is measured against other students in the class and former pupils who passed the real eleven plus.
