KS2-KS4 Contextual Value Added:

It compares how pupils from the age of 11 to 16 did in curriculum tests at the age of 11 with their GCSE performance at 16. Schools are measured against others with similar characteristics, such as postcode, proportion of children eligible for free school meals, gender mix, proportion of summer-born children. The measure takes the best of up to eight GCSE grades, or those for equivalent qualifications.

Pupils in schools with scores above 1,000 made better progress than similar pupils nationally, given the nature of their intake. Those below made less progress. A score of 1006 means on average each pupil achieved the equivalent of one GCSE grade higher in one subject than the average achieved by similar pupils. A score 994 denotes that pupils achieved one grade lower in one subject and 952 that the were one grade lower on average in each of their best eight subjects. Because the number of GSCEs counted per pupil is capped at the best 8, some very highly performing grammar schools, may appear to be doing less well than in fact they are.

There's more information about it on the Department for Children, Schools and Families.
